25-06-2019: Summer catch ups

February's Orchard Afternoon

So as I am really behind on my biodiversity blog postings, I thought I would post a few photos from different events over the next few weeks, to get back up to speed before we do our butterfly counts at the university.

In February, we had our annual visit to Dorich House Museum Orchard.
Identifying different type of buds
Lewis from the Orchard project continued to show the volunteers how to manage fruit trees. Lots of new volunteers from a local allotment associated attended and helped us maintain our trees in exchange for some knowledge that they hope to action on their own site through planting new fruit trees.
Learning something new every visit - when to remove tree collars
Excitedly our clippings from this years maintenance visit has been used by Hen Coleman - Dorich House Museum's artist in resident (link to more info). She has used the cuttings to create charcoal and then created plant based art with it.

I particularly love the texture that the ink created from the charcoal produces – to me the texture almost looks lunar.

the next catch up will be in a few days.
Bye til then :)
